When You Are [A Horse]...

When You Are [A Horse]... is a work

installed at the entrance to the Jeju Horse Museum.

 

Having stayed in Gasi-ri, famous for its farm for excellent horses,

I began to understand the perspective of horses.

It was then that I grasped why they tend to face one another when gathered and why passing behind them can be perilous.

I wanted to share not just the appearance of horses,

but also the world they perceive.

Inspired by the muscles of a horse, I incorporated fragments of Jeju earthenware,

aligning them with the cylindrical exterior of the museum,

which is designed in a 360-degree form.

 

I sought to evoke the contours of the nearby oreum,

visible beyond the walls.

 

As beings who unexpectedly found ourselves human and opened our eyes, I pondered how a horse would perceive the world.

눈을 떴는데 당신이 말이야...는

제주 조랑말 박물관에 입구에 설치된 작업이다.  

​갑마장으로 유명한 가시리에서 지내다 보니​

말의 시야에 대해 알게 되었고

그제야 왜 말들이 모여 있으면 서로 마주보는 형태로 있는지,

왜 말의 뒤로 지나가면 위험한지에 대해 이해하게 되었다.

​

단순히 말의 모습이 아니라 말이 보는 세상에 대해서도 나누고 싶었다.

말의 근육을 닮은 제주 옹기 파편과

마침 360도 원통의 형태로 만들어진 박물관의 외벽,

​그리고 벽 너머 보이는 오름의 선도 다 끌어오고 싶었다.

어쩌다 사람으로 태어난 우리가

또 어쩌다

눈을 떴는데 말이라면

어떤 시야로 세상을 보게될까...

상상한 것을 만들어보았다.
